Sindhi Zaika – As the name recommends, you get to taste the traditional Sindhi swad. It is a homemade delivery kitchen located in Mahim, Mumbai. All the homemade menu items at Sindhi Zaika are curated for those who wants to taste the real essence of Sindhi cuisine culture. The food is purely healthy and homemade traditionally prepared to give you the taste of what authentic sindhi cuisine is like.
My experience of meeting the owner and her thought process about Sindhi Zaika and its objective had been amazing. For me, sindhi food was just koki and sindhi kadi, but now through this outlet and then meeting Priya (owner), I have now got to know how sindhi meals are done, its origin, its preparation and presentation, its art of eating, sindhi meal varieties and what not.
Talking about the Sindhi Food
Let me tell you what were my brief experience with some of the best Sindhi food presented to me by Sindhi Zaika, below are the details –
They believe that to start off any meal esp in hot weather, sindhis tend to sip on some cool and refreshing drink, hence this rose sharbat was amazingly refreshing.
The meal was a mix of snacks and mains. This arbi tuk basically fried spicy arbi tikki (as you say) was too delicious to eat.
Bhein Batata Tikki
A potato batter dipped in besan and then fried giving it a crispy and soft nibble. Sindhis often eat this along with their meals.
Their traditional way of eating meals which is carried on till now is their sindhi papad. No sindhi meal is complete without their homemade sindhi papad.
A batter made of onions, lotus stem and besan and the mixture is deep fried to what is known by their sindhi name ‘Sanna Pakoda’.
This was basically raw channa dal as a filling in the cornflour batter shaped to the mini samosas. It was tummilicious.
Basic dahi boondi goes right with every meals and yet it goes right with Sindhi style food too.
This is nothing but the stuffed onion paratha, a basic sindhi item. Its a must try to your sindhi meal.
Sindhi Kadi Chawal
This is again the basic sindhi food which almost you all know. My introduction to sindhi food has been this years ago, and i find it very rich because it has potatoes, lady finger, drumsticks and whole liquid of besan ki kadi. Its sweet and tangy in taste.
No words to define to what this Indian meal combination is as it is themost delicious meal that Indians have invented. Also, Sindhi Zaika delivered us delectable chole and soft kulche to savour on.
Tikki ki Bhaji
This is the fabulous tikki curry, spices in it and the curry went well with the tikki. Too good to eat with chapatis.
Its name means seven vegetables hence its a cooked vegetable sabji of seven different vegetables like spinach, carrots, etc. As i was told by the host that its generally eaten with doodhi (sponge gourd) pulao or even with puris. Its prepared during certain festivities or occasions mostly. And I loved this one too.
Never eaten lauki/doodhi pulao then surely you must try this different pulao from here and make sure that you eat this with sat sagi.
A traditional sweet is mandatory after all heavy eating.
To top it all, this one was the divine as a dessert. I loved the every bite of crunchiness and sweetness that was coming to my mouth with all that rabdi. Yummy😋
I genuinely thank Priya (Sindhi Zaika owner) for having me through the Sindhi swad by inviting me over. Apart from classic sindhi kadhi and koki, I got to know a lot of more stuffs about the sindhi food and their culture. I genuinely loved the rich homemade food that I got to feast on with Sindhi Zaika.
